Real Living Xmas @ The Tuckeys

About 6 months after I moved to Sydney in March 2010, I started photographing for Real Living Magazine. I had a super time over those past 24 months shooting ~ and often prop styling on average 2 shoots per month. All the time I worked with the one and only Ali Irvine ~ a freelance food stylist and recipe writer and resident food editor at Real Living magazine. I had a ball shooting with Ali, we had many a giggle and good belly laugh on these shoots and Ali has grown to be a good friend of mine. She’s incredibly giving and caring and really good at what she does. She adores food and preparing it for others and when let loose to really be creative, she produces wonderful, home cooked, heart-warming recipes which are easy to prepare and don’t cost the earth or require 3 hours in the kitchen.

When you shoot for magazine editorials, you mainly do so three to four months in advance of the on-sale date. This is a shoot I did for RL back in August and it was sadly one of my last as due to work commitments in 2013 I had to make a call and I felt it was time to move on from shooting for RL. I will always be super grateful to the team at Real Living for giving me a break when I moved to Sydney and I thank them for offering me all the opportunities they did over the past 2 years. This ‘Christmas Lunch at The Tuckeys’* assignment was a great one for me, the location was amazing, the people were wonderful and overall it was a super shoot. Links to recipes featured here.

I had long been a fan of Mark Tuckey’s work which originated when I lived in Melbourne. Mark ~ a furniture designer, lives with his gorgeous wife Louella and two adorable daughters in a stunning beachside house, right on the water in Sydney’s Northern beaches. They were all incredibly welcoming to us on the day. You can read about Mark’s work and company which he runs with Louella, here at marktuckey.com.au

Another shoot I did with Ali was for the December edition of Real Living ‘Weekday meals’ editorial. These are two dishes which are featured on the Real Living website ~ you can find both recipes here and here along with all the recipes from the above Tuckey’s shoot ~ all the latter being vegetarian dishes.

P.S. I had pre-ordered your cookbook and it arrived well in time for Christmas entertaining. Pulling it out today to prepare a feast at the end of a mountain climbing day for my mountain climbing family. Thanks.

    Hi Katie,

Was on my way interstate at the start of this week and saw your cookbook in the Qantas magazine and I just wanted to congratulate you on your incredible success! As someone who is only just starting out in the business it’s so motivating and encouraging to see what must be a lot of really hard work pay off. Your book is one of the most beautiful books I’ve seen in a long time. Well done once again and Merry Christmas.
