Happy Valentine’s day 2013 ~ Kiss Kiss!! ;-)

Happy Valentine’s Day to all the lovey-dovey WKA readers out there all around the globe! ;-) *Note I have no clue how to do those love heart symbols which every, single, other, person on the entire planet knows how to type other than me… *_* (Hints on a postcard please? ~ tks!)

I’ll be honest, I rarely celebrate this holiday (it’s just never really appealed to me) but I know a lot do so here are a few pasta recipes just in case you’re thinking to wine and dine your loved one at home ~ or just looking for something nice to muster up over the coming weekend…

Today also sees the on-sale date of my March feature in Delicious mag Aus ~ and as ever it’s on sale at Zinio (link here). Am super chuffed to get a second cover in a row. (!) :-) I particularly loved this one as it’s all things… Italian ~ aka my favourite food on the planet! All recipes are available in this month’s Delicious mag but I’m uploading one here to WKA, which I exceptionally loved cooking for the shoot.

I am off to Melbourne tomorrow for 5 nights to mainly chill out and celebrate my wedding anniversary (ahhh!) and also experience some AMAZING food ~ note I am dining at the iconic Vue du Monde on Tuesday (= excitement overload!) and I am very much looking forward to it as well as some other great bookings I’ve made at places I have wanted to try out for yonks, but have never been organised enough in time to book and get a table…

I hope you all have a very ‘rosemantic’ day, as we say in Dublin’s fair city….

    Dear Katie,
    thank you for your wonderful pasta ideas. Unfortunately, there is no link to the recipe of the cannelloni- and pesto-dish. Could you add these, please?

    You are lucky we’re having some lovely warm weather down in Melb for a change, I might actually go to the beach this weekend!! Hoorah!

    So many new places have opened in Melbourne too (it’s a little crazy).

    Check out Hammer & Tong. Opened by 2 guys that previously worked at Vue de Monde.

    Coconut black rice pudding with mango, buttermilk pancakes sprinkled with popping candy and Turkish delight soda? Yes I think so.

    Katie, wonderfully scrummy as ever from the photos, and also nice to see hearty meal ideas put together on a Valentine’s day. Makes a change from all those frothy ones I’ve seen online lately!

    I made a pork lasagna recently and I have to say that pork was so much better a filling than beef – which I find granular and tasteless with pasta dishes. I’ll definitely be trying your recipe out. One tip – I have great difficulty fiddling around piping or squeezing ragu of any kind into dried cannelloni tubes – so messy. I discovered that using dried sheet lasagne, cooking it briefly in boiling water (til midly al dente), draining in cold water, and then laying it out flat, and rolling up with filling inside a far quicker and easier alternative.

    If you’re using a Mac, you get the heart symbol by going to Edit > Special Characters in your toolbar. On a Windows computer, it’s Alt + 3. Mac can do Alt + numbers, too, but there isn’t one for heart on a Mac. You have to insert it with the character palette.

    Hi Katie… I had to write and tell you, that your book arrived yesterday, I was so excited.

    As i’m in the UK it’s been on pre order/reserve for a month and I came home yesterday to find it waiting for me. I decided to save opening it until tonight so I could sit down and really enjoy it. It was so worth the wait. Absolutely beautiful. I love the photography,the styling, the book design and the typography. An incredible piece of work that you must be truely proud of.

    As a food and lifestyle photographer myself, I find you and your work such an inspiration… I’m so pleased you discovered your path and shared it with all of us!

      Stacy, it’s fantastic for me to hear this from you. I was so bummed initially when I heard the book wasn’t going on sale in the UK and Ireland until now, but I guess it has built up a little bit of anticipation. So far the feedback has been great, which is super for me as it was a long slog to do it all pretty much on my own. I am chuffed with the UK version.

    My partner and I are training for our first half marathon and they always so carb load before the event – I think I will just have to trial the carb loading over and over again with these recipes.
