Queensland floods, RSPCA donations

Hello all,

I think it’s now pretty common knowledge around the globe about the devastating floods in Queensland over the past two weeks or so and which are now hitting Brisbane (which is where a lot of my good friends live). I am a huge animal welfare supporter and am kindly asking the readers of WKA, if you can, to dig deep and possibly donate a few dollars to the RSPCA here in Oz who are doing all they can to help the domestic and wild animals caught up in this tragedy.

You can leave a donation here at the RSPCA’s website. This organisation in Oz are constantly facing ongoing challenges to keeps Australia’s animals safe and from harm due to the crazy extremes we get in weather – be it the appalling bushfires which took place in Victoria last year and now the floods in QLD.

I am so glad you posted that, I’d never seen your blog before, but I had asked the question about the animals (of course thinking of my own three and what would I do if a wall of water came our way). My friend directed me to your blog post, now I’m off to donate. Thank you.

thank you for posting and linking to RSPCA. it’s so important to consider the animals caught in the disaster. my own cat came all the way to los angeles from new orleans in the aftermath of hurricane katrina here in the states.

Of course, I will donate today. I used to live in Australia and it breaks my heart to see the country in a crisis – I also love though that you have picked out the animals issue, which so often get forgotten at times like these. I am also a huge animal lover and a big supporter of the RSPCA in the UK and it hadn’t occurred to me to donate to the RSPCA in Australia so thank-you for raising awareness. The picture says it all.

Katie, thank you for this information. We are complete animal lovers, and will contribute something nice to the organization.
We have all been worried about you guys. Texas sends love & support,

The devastation is heartbreaking, and every little helps. Thank you for this call… off to donate! Oz is one of my favourite countries to visit, though Sydney is all I’ve been to.

Unfortunately the website accepts donations from OZ residents only… sorry, but I tried.

Deeba – are you serious!? I wasn’t aware of that, thank you so much for trying though. I assumed one could donate from abroad, what a bizarre system them have. Let me do a little more research. Thanks again x

My heart is breaking for those affected in this horrible disaster but I, too, have a special affection for animals and I totally support the RSPCA. There are just so many great people who care about our pets/wildlife and I am grateful for each and every one of them. Thank you for posting this here as it will reach so many. X

This is my very first time here and I must say that your blog is awesome. But I also want to say how sorry I am for all of you Australians are going thru.

I’m praying for this to be gone soon and you guys can go back to enjoy your summer.

    All the way from Canada,

    Katie-

I’ve contacted Best Friends Animal Society here in the US to see if they can set up a way for Americans to donate with the money going to the RSPCA. I will keep you posted. If all works out, I’ll call on people as well to send donations via my blog monkeyinla.com.

You’re in our thoughts! Sending you love from California…

This disaster is so very sad, so much tragic waste. I’ll spread the word here in Ireland Katie. It’s great to have a link to donate to. Thanks. Liz

Fantastic post Katie – in fact I have added a link to your post on my own blog about how people can help both the animals and the appeal in general.

I read one story about a man clinging to a tree with hundreds of geckos all clinging on too. It is chilling to think how many animals {both native and others} were swept to their terrifying deaths.

Just tried to donate and it’s not working for US residents. I’m going to look for a way to donate.

Thank you giving us all of this information! Hope I can help in some way.

Hi, just found you and was stopping to comment on your photos. But, first I want to say that my prayers are with you and everyone in Australia.

Best Friends Animal Society is on the case here in the US! Will let you all know when they set up a fund.

In the meantime, here is a link for the RSPCA in Australia where you can donate no matter what country you’re in:
