WHAT KATIE ATE ATE THE WEEKEND ~ COOKBOOK NO. 2

I’m thrilled to announce that today, October 22nd, sees the nationwide Australian on-sale date of my second What Katie Ate cookbook ~ What Katie Ate at the Weekend :)

I am really happy with the outcome of my second book. It was a mammoth under-taking for me and as a lot of authors will attest, your second book is often the hardest as due to the (wonderful) success of my first, I had a lot to live up to ~ especially as the first one, won a James Beard Award in 2013, which is still one of the highlights of my life and career as a photographer.

I started work on this book back in June 2013, just after I returned from NYC in May. I wanted to include more travel and lifestyle stories in this one, and overall it’s a lighter, brighter version of the first book. There are 5 editorials dotted throughout the book which have a lovely magazine-feel and one features 9 of the most gorgeous blog readers who all came together to have lunch with me back in October last year ~ thanks again girls, you were all fantastic!

Book 2 is all about weekend entertaining ~ or more specifically it’s jam-packed full of recipes that you can enjoy at the weekend, but you can also make with ease during the week. Lots of brunch ideas, funky salads, dinner party mains, cocktails and party food and yummo desserts. I am really happy with all the recipes and they reflect a lot of the learning over the past two years in regards to seasonal produce and growing as a recipe writer.

The book is on sale nationwide as of today in Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
Please note ~ It will go on sale in the US, UK, Ireland and Europe as of next May 2015.

On Friday this week I will be launching a new section on the blog where you can purchase a signed copy of the book and my first one, along with a selection of photographic prints ~ I’ll be adding more and more pics to the latter section as the months go on.

All sales at this stage are limited to Australia but I am looking into postage options for worldwide orders. Until then, you can buy a signed copy of the book here at The Gourmet Grocer Online or at bookstores nationwide.

      I was lucky enough to be given two of your cookbooks for Christmas this year. Your photography and food styling is a work of art! So glad that you’ve followed your passion for this industry. Because I’ve only just received the cookbooks, I don’t have a favourite but I can’t definitely tell you that the vanilla panna cotta will be one of the first things I cook.

      My favourite weekend cooking adventure has to be trying out a new recipe however I always go back to your sausage rolls from book one! The grated green apple and pork mixture is superb and for all ages!

    On the weekends, I love nothing more than lazy day brunches with friends, movie nights, walks along the beach with my husband and pup and also a spot of pottering around the kitchen

    my favourite weekend food is definitely, fresh eggs from the chickens made into simple chive and cheese omelettes served with homemade ciabatta. preferably eaten sitting outside. looking forward to your new book.

    OMG Katie my mouth is watering just looking at the gorgeous images from your new book. I cant wait to get it!

    My favourite thing to cook on the weekend is a good old fashioned roast of some description & all that goes with it. I grew up going to my grandparents house for Sunday Roast (at lunch of course) every week. They had a huge market garden out the back, my granddad’s passion, and so there was always an abundance of fresh, seasonal vegetables.

    New book looks fantastic! I just jumped onto the Good Grocer to order myself a copy and ended up buying BOTH of your books instead! Can’t wait until they arrive. My favorite thing to cook on the weekend is breakfast with my family.
    Current fave is Smashed Avocado with Meredith Goat Cheese on toasted sourdough, served with perfect poached eggs! (and an espresso). x

    A huge happy congrats Katie! Hhhmm I love a Saturday avo cook up for friends – something fab for grazing with wine, followed by some pulled pork and salads or pizzas with fresh bases. With that system in place i tend to be unable to produce dessert! Might need your book!!!

    Hi Katie, congratulations on your new book! It looks amazing!

    My favourite thing to make on the weekend is your fettuccine with prawns, cream and sun-dried tomatoes from your first book. It is a firm family favourite now, and everyone gets excited when we decide to make it. The delicious smell of the vermouth cooking draws everyone out of their hiding places and into the kitchen every time it is made. We sit and enjoy the meal together, Then each of us eye off the left overs and fight over who gets to enjoy them for lunch the next day!

    My favorite thing is to make at the weekend is having a pot of soup on the stove slowly cooking for hours. Posiibly minestrone romano with spring veges and lots of herbs from the garden. May be good old fashioned chicken soup when I’m in need of comfort food.

    During winter it would have to be a slow cooked meat with a nice glass (or 3) of red wine and during summer – bbq treats, seafood, salads and lots of chilled rose to share with friends! Congrats Katie, it looks real tasty! :-) x

    What I like to cook on the weekends actually involves not really cooking at all! I like to head over to the fish markets in Maroubra and get the freshest tuna and salmon and make sashimi. Pared with edamame, seasoned rice, fresh pickles and seaweed, it brings me back to the days of living and working in Japan. I never have the patience to do it on a weekday :)

    My favourite thing to cook on the weekend would have to be breakfast of any sort! During the week, I’m in too much of a hurry to do anything more than make a bowl of granola. On the weekend, I relish the opportunity to make something a little more interesting. This weekend I made spelt pancakes with rhubarb and coconut yoghurt. It was truly divine! Can’t wait to see the book – if it’s anything like your last I will be in foodie heaven! xx

    Hi Katie!!!
    I love your book. At the weekend I like cooking your slow cooked Lamb from your first book, and then make the pizzas from the left over lamb on Sunday night. BLISS! I also love making exotic breakfast, mainly but not limited to pancakes made in different ways to the usual. One of my favorites is simply a mashed banana, some ricotta and some oat bran, cooked as any pancake would be. Then on top I do a mix of ricotta, cinnamon and pear (or what ever fruit I may have). YUM!
    Cannot wait to get cooking with the new cook book!!!

    My partner and I love your first book, and are so excited about the release of Book #2! Congratulations!
    My favourite thing to cook on weekends are meals that take me to another place; be it exotic or homely, but always new & exciting to share with my favourite people! (A bright, colourful salad and a delicious meat that has marinated for hours or cooked to the point of melt-in-your-mouth springs to mind.. )

On weekends and particularly if I’m trying to impress, it’s your eight hour lamb.. I get requests to cook this!     My favourite food to cook on a weekend is bread. I love the way the smell fills your home. My particular house has some conflicting tastes so we usually end up with loaves that are sweet, savoury, grainy, gluten free and sometimes a bit of everything!

    My favourite thing to cook on the weekend is a baked beans of sorts. Lots of onion and garlic to get things started, slice up some chorizo and add to the mix to start browning, a couple of tins of cannalini beans and some chopped tomatoes thrown in and bring to the boil. Let the sauce thicken then serve up on some nice chunky toast with some crumbled feta or a fried egg on top.

    at the weekend I don’t like to cook. cooking is something for evening during the week to get a distance from the stress at the office. at weekends I like to have long breakfasts or brunches with friends where everyone brings something so that no one really likes to eat in the evening. now in autumn and upcoming winter we start to have raclette evening on saturday evenings – starting in the afternoon. btw – your book looks so, so wonderful! you, the meals, the design – all together absolutely gorgeous!

    Most favorite thing to do on the weekends is head down to my local fresh food market, stock up on fresh ingredients and come home for lunch and cook up a mixed veggie salad with a lemon garlic tahini recipe with a piece of salmon cooked in parchment payment with leaks, lemon, dill and salt and pepper. Purrrrfecttt!

    Not only do I love your recipes, but your photography work. As a photographer myself I can’t stop myself swooning and drooling over your recipes. As I flip through the pages I often find myself saying ‘Yummmmm’ whilst touching the photos as if I was going to get a bite of your breakfast strawberry muffins. Can’t wait to see your next book!

    My favourite things to make on the weekend are huge batches of berry bircher muesli and maple and coconut granola. The recipes change all the time but there is always a great mix of dried fruits, nuts and cinnamon. Making a big batch means I have a healthy and delicious breakfast for the week and I always have enough to package some up for my friends too!

    I’m a uni student so weekends are an ideal time for procrastibaking and I’m always on the lookout for impressive but simple/cost-effective recipes that suit my skill level (low) and wallet (also kind of low)! I really like making brownies from an old DesignTech recipe – even more so because they last the whole week :)

    I would love to read your cookbook cover to cover and study your staging. I am still trying to improve on my food shots. I love to cook and my Honey and I on the weekends make dishes to store in the freezer. We bake bread, make meatballs, ravioli, gnocchi and soups — just to start. Then we share them with our kids and grandkids. To me cooking is therapy. I am constantly looking for new recipes, new flavors and new techniques. I am looking forward to your cookbook. Psssst!!     Just before I got an email about your new post I was thinking to try out your raspberry and chocolate meringue kisses. The photographs alone are enough to convince to make them, not to mention the simple instructions and beautiful writing. No doubt that your next book will be as successful as the first one.

    My favourite thing to make on weekends are light meals as pan fried snapper with salads as that is the only time of the week when me and my better half can have seafood. A good way to relax yourself and your body before a new week has started.

    Mt favorite thing to cook on the weekend is a BBQ, pack up some delish food and head out to the lake or adventure up a river with a group of friends and have a big shared picnic BBQ. Can’t wait for the second book, the first lives on my bench. Congrats.

    Fabulous another cookbook. Loved the first one. Very excited to get the new one. Our favorite weekend cooking is breakfast – brunch. At the moment I am loving sauteed fresh kale( from the garden) and mushrooms with a poached egg on top, drizzle some balsamic and good Extra virgin Olive oil and you have a great start to the day. This weekend I may try some on some fresh homemade spelt sourdough. Yum, cant wait.

    Weekend food has to be slow roasted pork with crispy roasted potatoes and salad. Homemade lemonade (my Son’s favourite thing in the world). Followed by ricotta cake drizzled with berry compote. Yum! Congrats on the new book – it looks awesome!

    My favourite thing to cook on the weekend is something I haven’t tried before! I’m addicted to trying new recipes and tasting new flavours! Sometimes the flavours are so unusual or out there but it’s so much fun for me and my boyfriend to do!

    Great book Katie. I look forward to shoplifting it in time for Christmas. My fave thing to cook on the weekend is a delicious batch of crystal methamphetamine. The aromas waft out of the lab and through the neighbourhood, whetting everyone’s appetite for a four-day meth binge. Jesse and I round out the day with a walk along the canal followed by watching Orange is the New Black curled up on the couch.

    Fabolous new book!
    To me saturday is the best day to cook pizza (margherita or Napoli with anchovies) and focaccia, I like to prepare some pesto (tradional one: basil, parmigiano, olive oil, garlic and pinenuts) to put on top of the focaccia. And a simple delizioso Apple tart. Weekend is never long enough!

    Wake early, get coffee on stove. Cycle to Marrickville Markets. Have a lovely chat with the stall holders. Buy flowers & organic veges, maybe a succulent to grow in an old vessel. Cycle home with goodies. Fire up the oven. Spatchcock a plump chicken. Into it’s oven home it goes. Serve hot and crispy with a lovely salad of leaves, strawberries & fresh goat cheese. Some crunchy sourdough. A glass of wine. A warm evening in the garden. Husband. Bliss x

    Congratulations on the new book. I think I know what I’ll be hinting at for Christmas. I’d have to say the my favourite thing to cook on any weekend is simple Sunday brunch. Whilst recipes may vary, my favs are usually poached eggs on sour dough with smashed chilli avocado or if I’m feeling indulgent banana and coconut pancakes with creme fraiche and caramel sauce – thinking of it now is making me hungry!

    HI Katie, great to have met you on the flight a week and a half ago from sydney to Adelaide. have checked out your site. beautiful work….. am a big delicious mag fan.have learnt to adapt the recipes for Coeliac friendly over the years so I can still use them!     Gorgeous Katie! What a serious undertaking, but it looks like a stunning result and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy to drool over and bake {read: convert} from. My hands down fave thing on the weekend to bake? Hmmm… would have to be a big loaf of gluten free banana bread… or a decadent chocolate brownie… what can I say, pregnancy hormones make it hard to pick just one!

    Well I like to go for a long walk on the weekend… I also like to take time to do some cooking or cake decorating. For some reason your blog has been hidden in my bloglovin feed, I just thought things had been quiet for a very long time. Ha ha.

    Stunning photos! My favourite thing to cook is steak with broccoli sautéed in olive oil, garlic and slivered almonds – simple but so tasty!

    Wow what a gorgeous book! My favourite thing to make on the weekend is some baking for the kids (and my) lunchboxes for the week ahead – maybe a macadamia brownie, banana bread, buckwheat choc chip cookies.. Love to put on some music and get mixing, sometimes with my little helpers, sometimes on my own.

    I love your first book and I can’t wait to try the recipes from your second book. We’re celebrating an early Christmas on Sunday this weekend due to some family members going overseas for two months. For this weekend and also in general I love a good BBQ with colourful, healthy salads. My favourite salad at the moment has lots of quinoa, roasted capsicum, cucumber, crunchy seeds, baby spinach, corn, cucumber, spanish onions and whatever else I can find in the fridge in it. A favourite BBQ desert is cooking honey covered bananas with almonds wrapped in foil. So delicious.

    I love to cook a leg of lamb with lots of fresh rosemary and garlic in the oven nice and slowly until it all falls off the bone. Throw in some crunchy roast potatoes and gravy made from the juices and I am in heaven. Oh and don’t forget friends and family to share it with! Congrats on book 2!

    I am absolutely drooling over these photos!! We are just about to settle into our first home and I cannot wait to spend summer on the alfresco! My partner and I love to BBQ and good old fashioned ribs are a favourite! I am also looking forward to long brunches with friends and family in the summer sun :)

    At the moment because it’s Christmas I’m loving festive cook ups- this weekend will be beef Wellington with glazed carrots and garlic and chive mash and to finish it off will be homemade vanilla ice cream with white chocolate, berries and nougat.
