I want to mention on the blog about this hotel I stayed at in the Lake District area of the UK. It’s located in a place called Barnsgate, which is about 3.5 miles west of the town of Ambleside, Cumbria, and it’s utterly GORGEOUS!

It’s called The Drunken Duck, and honestly, it’s one of the most excellent hotels I think I have ever stayed in, as it’s got everything I adore about English country pubs and hotels. It’s super cosy, quaint, and full of personality.

It’s a perfect place for a 2 night (possibly) romantic getaway. The staff was charming, warm, and inviting. It’s totally non-pretentious and is a great place to cosy up to by the fire with a glass of red or a gin and tonic. The bar staff and staff, in general, were lovely. Great convo and just super in general.

I stayed in one of their rooms in the annex out at the back of the main building, and the room was stunning. I splashed out a bit and bought their dinner and afternoon tea package - the latter can be delivered to your room until 5pm and contained gorgeous freshly home-made English scones, preserves, clotted cream, a steaming pot of tea and a glass of champagne. It was an excellent welcome back to the hotel each day after driving about exploring the stunning surrounding countryside.

I stayed in their No. 12 suite. It’s enormous, super cosy, decorated beautifully, has a stunning roll-top bath and separate shower, and an outside courtyard where you can sit and look out over the beautiful Cumbria countryside. It was dead quiet by early eve. All you can hear and see is the local woodpecker banging away on their tree trunk, geese and ducks flying by, and the odd pheasant pottering about in the opposite field.

Dinner each night was fantastic. I would highly recommend their ‘Treacle beef shin crumpet, horseradish vinegar”.
